Congo Safaris

Talk of coming face to face with one creature that has taken the behaviors and human faces in the wilderness, listening to the sweet melodies of the birds, watching fascinating landscape, and enjoying borderless hospitality, make Congo your next holiday destination. It is something unique, refreshing and unforgettable. The speaking wildlife and nature of Congo is by far the best place to unwind your stress, passion, and honeymoon among others. Step into a country with a wide range of biodiversity, cool climate, less congested and virgin wildernesses on your Congo Safaris.

The Democratic Republic of Congo is located in the central part of Africa, neighbored by Burundi, Uganda and Rwanda to the east, South Sudan and the Central African Republic to the north, the Republic of Congo to the northwest, Zambia to the south, Angola to the south-west and the Atlantic Ocean to the west. Congo ranks as the second-largest country in Africa, with over 9 provinces, variety of wildlife species, vast forested land and historical sites.

This nation has gone through a series of name changes before arriving at the final one. From 1908 to 1960, it was called the Belgian Congo, then from 1971 to 1997 Zaire. Thereafter, the Democratic Republic of Congo was named. These transformations alone should give you an insight into how interesting it is to have your safari here – not only for that, but also by the way it has thrown away the weight of Cholera, political unrests and rebel attacks, but still standing so firm as one of the top travel destinations in Africa, if not the world.

Congo safaris are centered on the vast national parks, game reserves, city, cultural communities and leisure parks, with thousands of visitors from across the world arriving annually. Worry not about the security, transportation, affordability, cuisine and accommodation, because everything is available and worth a visitor’s taste.

Honeymooners, sun birders, explorers, researchers, students and primate lovers are all welcome. Depending on your budget, the safari can be tailored as luxury or shoestring, with an option of undertaking it as a solo traveler or as a group.

The following are some safari options tourists can carry out in the Democratic Republic of Congo. They can be combined or taken separately, for as many days as possible.

Gorilla Trekking

Gorilla trekking is a famed safari experience in D.R. Congo, attracting thousands of visitors from across the world all year round. Interestingly, Congo is privileged to have two Unique Gorilla species unlike the other countries with only one, thus an added advantage to the visitors. There are the sought after rare endangered mountain gorillas in Virunga National Park, one of the oldest parks in the world, and the Eastern Lowland Gorillas at Kahuzi-Biega National Park.

Gorillas are human’s closest relatives, with roughly similar characteristics. The other thing is that Congo Gorilla trekking permits are the cheapest in the continent, selling at only 400usd, for those aged 15 years and above.

Birding

At the designated places, such as national parks, swamps, and many more, you will be guided to the renowned habitats of the different bird species for study, observation and any other reason as you wish. Birding is one of the finest vacations everyone should engage in.

Mountain Hiking

This is one of the main safari offers in D.R. Congo; hiking to the summit of one of the most active mountains on earth; the blazing mountain Nyiragongo. Mount. Nyiragongo is located inside Virunga national park and hikes to the summit last for one day and the next day is descending.

Other safari activities include city tours, cultural adventure, wildlife tours and many more, as the person handling your trip will tell you.

Packing List for Congo Safaris

The length of the safari and activities to engage in most cases determine what we pack because, at the end of the day, no one wants to have luggage that will be a burden to them. As we guide you on some of those to move with, the whole burden is on you to make the selections.

Documents include; yellow fever vaccination form, Insurance, trekking permit, visa, passport and Covid-19 negative test form, Gadgets such as camera, binoculars, batteries and many more, personal items, long-sleeved shirts, hiking boots and descent clothes.

Best Time to Visit DR Congo

D.R. Congo is open to visitors all year round, though we recommend visiting from December to February and June to October.

Regardless of what history speaks about D.R. Congo, the truth is that it is one of the most exciting, safe and satisfying holiday destinations in Africa. Most tourists access it through Kigali since it is the nearest to Virunga national park and other top attractions in the eastern region. Create memories of a lifetime on your Congo Safaris.
