Virunga national park is the oldest national park in Africa situated in Democratic Republic of Congo and home to several endangered mountain Gorilla species that guests come from all over to sight. Detailed Trip
Day 1: Kigali to Bukima sector in D.R. Congo
Upon your arrival at Kigali international airport, our safari guide will meet you, and brief you about the 4 day double Gorilla trekking experience, he will then have a simple Kigali city tour, visiting the Kigali Genocide memorial before proceeding to Bukima in the Democratic Republic of Congo, there will be a stopover along the way for lunch.
The entire journey is very interesting due to the fascinating views you will feed your eyes with such as the rolling hills of Virunga volcanoes, green plantations, and many more features. Arrive at the lodge after 4-6 hours only to be served with dinner and overnight proceeds.
Day 2: First Gorilla trekking experience
On this day, you will have to wake up early in the morning for an energy-giving breakfast before parking your meal, hiking boots, putting ion trousers, packing binoculars, cameras and heading to the park headquarters for the first day of mountain gorilla trekking experience. At around 8:00 am, the park ranger will brief you on the don’ts and dos while tracking the primates that posses more than 95% of Human DNA; the alongside an armed guard will accompany you to the jungle in quest for the primates, a hike that can last for up to 4 hours depending on how far the gorillas have gone.
A maximum of one hour will be yours to study the gorillas, have lunch before undertaking a cultural encounter with the local communities who will entertain you with interesting stories and dances.
Day 3: 2nd session of gorilla trekking
After a very heavy breakfast, have breakfast and head for yet another interaction with a different gorilla family in the same destination.
This will start at 8:00 pm with a briefing the head to the park for the ultimate action that will last for approximately 4hours depending on how far the Gorillas have roamed, then one hour is yours to watch the distinctive features that these creatures possess, interaction, how the dominant silverbacks govern the fellows and most importantly, the female mothers feeding their young ones.
When all this is done, have lunch and return to the lodge to just relax and enjoy any activity that will be presented in case time allows; dinner and overnight will then follow.
Day 4: Depart to Kigali international airport
Depending on your flight time, you will have breakfast when you have woken up, then check out of the lodge for a 4hour drive to Kigali international airport. This will mark the end of your 4-days double gorilla trekking Congo safari.
