This tailor-made 5 Days Uganda and Rwanda Gorillas safari is an exciting experience that takes visitors to two of the parks located in Virunga Conservation Area. Trek Uganda gorillas in Mgahinga and golden monkeys in Volcanoes Park Rwanda to make a complete Uganda – Rwanda package. The trip starts in Kampala, Uganda ending in Kigali, Rwanda.
5 Days Uganda and Rwanda Gorillas safari itinerary
Day 1: Pick up from Kampala & transfer to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park.
Upon your arrival at Entebbe International Airport, your happy driver guide from our company will welcome you. He/she will briefly take you through the itinerary and thereafter set off for a whole day drive to Mgahinga gorilla national park. The drive time to Mgahinga from Kampala is roughly 9 hours via Masaka, Mbarara and Kabale towns. You will have various stopovers at the Equator for photography and proceed through street markets for roasted Muchoma, Gonja drinks and the likes. Arrive in Mgahinga Park in the evening for relaxation and dinner.
Day 2: Mountain gorilla trekking.
This is our great day for trekking gorillas. Rise up early, have a delicious African breakfast and embark on a transfer from your lodge to park headquarters at Ntebeko Information Centre for registration and briefing about the regulations and guidelines to follow during gorilla trekking experience. Begin the trek together with trackers and game rangers at 8:30am, move through the thick, foggy jungles until you meet the only resident gorilla family, Nyakagezi.
A face-to-face encounter with Mark, the silverback gorilla in Nyakagezi family will change your life for good! Spend an hour with these endangered gorillas, take pictures, learn their social behaviors and enjoy this lifetime experience. Gorilla trekking time can last for between 30 minutes to 7 hours.
Day 3: Batwa trail experience & transfer to Volcanoes N/Park.
After morning-relaxed breakfast, you will visit the Batwa community villages near Mgahinga National park. Meet and interact with batwa pygmies, the traditional dwellers of Mgahinga gorilla National park. Traditional dances, songs, and poems will be performed telling about Batwa’s traditional forest life.
Fortunately, you can take part in these dances, which make you feel part of the community. Return to the lodge for lunch, check out and transfer to Rwanda via Cyanika border. Drive northwestwards to Volcanoes National Park, which is not only home to the endangered mountain gorillas but also to the shy, elusive golden monkeys.
Day 4: Golden Monkey trekking.
Wakeup early to an early warm breakfast and together with your driver guide, transfer to Kinigi Park headquarters for registration and briefing session. During the briefing, cultural performers will entertain you with Rwanda’s traditional songs and vibrant dances as they welcome you to the land of a thousand hills.
At 8:00am, start hiking to the jungles of Volcanoes N/Park in search for golden monkeys. Enjoy an encounter with these lively playful creatures as they jump over you across tree branches. Return to the lodge and spend the rest of that day chilling.
Day 5: Kigali City tour & Departure.
Enjoy your morning cold sleep, wakeup to have a relaxed sunrise breakfast, check out and drive to Kigali. Have a brief city tour through Kigali to explore the Kigali Genocide Memorial Site and other tourist destinations in the city Centre. Thereafter, drive to Kigali International Airport for your connecting flight. This will mark the end of your 5 Days Uganda and Rwanda Gorillas safari.
