7 Days Bwindi Gorilla encounter itinerary
Day 1: Pick up & transfer to Bwindi Forest (Buhoma sector).
Arrive at Entebbe International Airport, meet our driver guide representing our company, have a briefing on the flow of the itinerary and set off for Kabale via Ankole cattle farms, banana plantations and rolling hills. You will have a stopover at the Equator for photographs and short calls. Proceed with the journey with various stopovers to buy roadside foods as you interact with happy locals. Check in to your lodge in Buhoma sector north of Bwindi Impenetrable National park.
Day 2: 1st Gorilla trekking & drive to Ruhija region for overnight stay.
This day, you shall undertake a first gorilla trek. Begin the day with an early breakfast and thereafter transfer to Ruhija Park briefing Banda for pre-trek briefing and document verification. The briefing lasts for about 30 minutes and by 8:30am, begin the hike into this foggy impenetrable forest, heading for a lifetime meeting with mountain gorillas. Gorilla trekking encounter is not just a thrilling adventure but a fun encounter which lasts for 2 – 7 hours, depending on the location of a particular gorilla group being tracked.
The allowed time with gorillas is strictly an hour counted from the time you set your eyes on the endangered gorillas. Enjoy an hour with gorillas, take pictures and embrace their human like characters, which make them our close relatives. In the evening, drive to Ruhija sector east of Bwindi Forest National Park. Check into your lodge and prepare for your second gorilla trek.
Day 3: 2nd Gorilla trekking in Ruhija region.
Wake up early, have a cup of hot coffee and get ready for your 2nd gorilla trekking experience. With your packed lunch transfer to Ruhija park headquarters. Register with the park rangers and have a brief guide about the rules and regulations of gorilla trekking experience. Spend an hour with one gorilla family in Ruhija, enjoy how gorillas interact with each other, take pictures, capture live videos and have fun with your close relatives. The hiking time before meeting gorillas can go up to over 6 hours but you are very sure of meeting gorillas at the end of the trek.
Day 4: Local community tours & transfer to Rushaga sector.
Enjoy your morning sleep, have a relaxed breakfast as fog clears off the forest canopy. Thereafter, you will visit the nearby local communities to learn and experience their traditions, norms and customs. In the afternoon, drive to Rushaga sector in the southern part of Bwindi Forest National park
Day 5: 3rd Gorilla trekking & transfer to Nkuringo region.
Wakeup very early, have breakfast and leave your place of accommodation, drive to Rushaga park headquarters for check in and briefing session. Begin the trekking adventure at exactly 8:30am, walking into an impenetrable forest aiming for fully habituated gorilla family in Rushaga sector. Spend an hour with gorillas, learn their human like characters, se how they interact together and enjoy this once in a lifetime experience. Hike down, meet your diver guide and transfer to Nkuringo sector.
Day 6: 4th Gorilla Trekking in Nkuringo region.
Today you have a 4th gorilla encounter. In the early morning after breakfast, get your packed lunch and transfer to Nkuringo park head quarters for briefing and registration. You will be out along with other 7 travelers and allocated to a particular gorilla family to visit.
The trek to meet the gorillas starts at 8:00am lasting for a maximum of 7 hours. Nkuringo sector presents one of the most strenuous treks but worth it. After meeting the gorillas, spend an hour in their company, take pictures, capture live videos and enjoy this unforgettable adventure. More so, a standoff at Nkuringo hill offers you stunning views of the Virunga massif which spans through Rwanda and Congo, perfect views for photography. Overnight stay in Nkuringo region.
Day 7: Departure.
Enjoy your morning sleep, wakeup to have a sunrise cup of coffee as you watch the foggy Bwindi Forest, check out and depart for Kampala. The 8 hour drive via Kabale, Mbarara and Masaka highway offers you romantic views of rolling hills, local farms, homesteads and Ankole cattle farms among others. Arrive in Kampala in the evening and connect to Entebbe airport for your return flight. This will mark the end of your 7 Days Bwindi Gorilla encounter.
