This 6 days triple gorilla trekking in Uganda gives you chance to visit three different gorilla families in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park and Bwindi Impenetrable N/Park, both situated in south west of Uganda. It’s an opportunity to interact with more than one gorilla family for better comparisons and a greater gorilla safari experience. You will also visit Batwa community villages to make a complete package. This safari starts and ends in Kampala, Uganda.
6 Days Triple Gorilla Trekking Uganda itinerary
Day 1: Pick up & transfer to Bwindi Forest National Park.
Arrive at Entebbe airport; meet your driver guide representing our company, have a brief introduction regarding the flow of your itinerary and thereafter set-off for your journey to southwest. The drive from Kampala to Kanungu is roughly 8 hours via Ankole and Kigezi rolling hills. Enjoy stopovers at the equator for breakfast and photography. Have lunch enroute and proceed via towns, trading centers, Ankole farms and local communities to Kanungu in Southwestern Uganda. The first gorilla trek will be in Buhoma sector.
Day 2: 1st Gorilla trekking – Buhoma sector.
Today is your first day of gorilla trekking. Wakeup early, have a delicious cup of tea and off you transfer to Buhoma park headquarters where you will join fellow trekkers for registration and pre gorilla trek briefing. At 8:30am, begin your long-awaited trek to meet one of the habituated gorilla groups in Buhoma trekking sector. The trek is undeniably strenuous and can last for over 7 hours depending on the location of your gorilla family and the hiking speed of the slowest person in your group.
Finally, you will meet the gorillas! Spend an hour with a gorilla family, take pictures, observe their human like characters and enjoy this magical experience. Hike down, meet your driver guide and drive to the eastern based Ruhija sector where you will do a second gorilla trekking the following day.
Day 3: 2nd Gorilla trekking & transfer to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park.
You will have your second gorilla encounter today. After an early morning breakfast, get your packed lunch and drive to the park headquarters. Register with the park, have a short briefing on the dos and don’ts of gorilla trekking. The hike to trek gorillas starts at 8:00am lasting for between 30 minutes to 7 hours. However, you are assured of meeting the gorillas. Spend an hour with the gorillas, enjoy their social behaviors and enjoy this lifetime experience. In the evening, you will transfer to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, the sister gorilla park in Kisoro district.
Day 4: 3rd Gorilla trekking in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park.
On this day, you will trek the only habituated gorilla family in Mgahinga, Nyakagyezi. Wake up in the morning and, take breakfast before beginning a drive to Ntebeko Visitor Information Centre for pre gorilla trekking briefing and registration. At 8:00am hike to meet the gorillas. The hike can be as short as 30 minutes or as long as 7 hours, however, you are 99% sure of meeting them at the end of the trek. Spend an hour in the company of the gorillas, take as many pictures as possible, enjoy their social characters of gorillas and have fun.
Day 5: Batwa cultural trail.
Have a relaxed morning breakfast and go for a Batwa cultural trail. The experience entails visiting Batwa community villages near Mgahinga Park to learn and experience their traditional forest life. You will be guided into the forest to collect honey, make fire, pick firewood, hunt and visit Ngarama cave where batwa pygmies would offer sacrifices to their gods.
The Batwa will also perfume their traditional dances and songs to entertain you. Spend the rest of your afternoon relaxing at the lodge enjoying great views of the Virunga Volcanoes in the opposite.
Day 6: Departure.
Have a sunrise morning breakfast, enjoy your last moments in the park, check out and set off for your long journey back to Kampala via Kabale – Mbarara – Masaka road for your return flight via Entebbe International Airport.
