The absence of elephants in the park benefits the vast woodland. Antelopes, buffaloes, leopards, jackals, and hyenas abound in the park’s Savannah grass. Sipi Falls:

The Sipi Falls are some of Uganda’s most beautiful waterfalls. The Sipi Falls, located at the foot of Mount Elgon, are one of Uganda’s most popular tourist attractions. There are three levels, with the highest level attracting the most visitors.

Mountain gorillas, like many other wild animals, are inherently afraid of humans and will flee or become hostile if confronted. Gorilla charging is uncommon, although it might happen if the group is approached without a habituation period. Mountain gorilla habituation is the process of acclimating these kind and charming creatures to humans and teaching them to regard humans as any other harmless thing in their habitat. The habituation process for gorillas normally takes two to three years, but it can go up to five years. During the habituation stage, gorilla group members are also named.

A group of trackers, guides, and researchers approach a gorilla troop in a non-threatening manner with the goal of determining the best way to communicate with the gorillas. This is perilous because gorillas, particularly the dominant silverback, would want to assert their dominance, and some level of aggression should be expected. The key to gorilla habituation is to get the approval of the dominant male. Once this is accomplished, closeness to the group can follow. After the gorilla group has finished the habituation procedure, they are examined before being opened to tourists.

Gorilla Habituation process.

The gorilla habituation process began in central Africa in the 1960s, spearheaded by Dr Dian Fossey along with tracking, identification, range mapping, and other research activities that are still being implemented by gorilla conservation authorities today. Gorilla habituation is a useful tool for gorilla conservation projects and research because it enables for easy monitoring of gorilla groups’ security, health, population trends, social behavior, and feeding patterns. It is also possible to quantify the revenue earned by local communities, governments, and businesses, particularly tourism-related businesses, using gorilla habituation. Gorilla habituation is risky and time consuming. As a result of regular contact with humans, it exposes gorillas to hazards such as sickness. Furthermore, for habituation to be considered successful, a significant amount of time must be set aside.

Mountain gorilla conservation and habituation began in the early 1990s with the establishment of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park in 1991. This involved three gorilla groups; the Katendegyere and Mubare groups in the Buhoma sector and the Kyagulilo Group in the Ruhija sector of Bwindi in the initial phase of habituation. In 1993, the first two groups were available to tourism activity. However, the Katendegyere group, which had 11 members (down from 3 in 1998), crossed to the Democratic Republic of Congo in the Sarambwe Game Reserve, while the Mubare Group, which was led by Ruhondeza (a Silverback gorilla who died in 2012), now has 12 members following a series of adjustments. The Kyaguliro, a group that was the target of a poaching incident and lost four members, now has 18 members due to fresh births.

As gorilla trekking became more popular in the mid-1990s, so did the need for new Gorilla families to be habituated because the original group just couldn’t meet all of the requests. This resulted in the formation of two additional groups, the Habinyanja and Nkuringo. However, the Nkuringo group was only opened to tourism in 2004 because to a number of problems, including inadequate infrastructure.

With the need to disseminate its significance to the majority of Bwindi, the third phase of habituation began in 2006, with two additional groups habituated and opened up for tourism in 2008. The Nshongi and Bitukura tribes were among them. The Nshongi group in the park’s southern sector was the largest gorilla group ever recorded, with over 30 members at the time. This was the outcome of a major split in the group, which resulted in its merger with another group. In 2008, two more groups were habituated: the Kahungye Group in the Park’s southern half and the Oruzogo Group in the forest’s western section, which had 30 and 20 members, respectively.

The former splintered into nine members to form the Busingye Group.

Trekking vs. Habituation Experience with Gorillas

Gorilla habituation experience is a newly developed activity for mountain gorilla enthusiasts in which four tourists are given the opportunity to experience the joy of the Gorilla habituation process for four hours under the supervision of studied and qualified trackers. This is in contrast to gorilla trekking, in which 8 people are assigned to each gorilla group and can only observe the gorillas for one hour. The Uganda Wildlife Authority pioneered gorilla habituation experience in 2014, which is exclusively available in Uganda.

You will have more time to learn about their way of life, take more photos, observe them interact, feed, build nests, and groom themselves during the gorilla habituation process. You will also learn about the roles that each member of the family plays. The gorilla habituation experience, which includes park entry, costs $1500 compared to the $700 spent for one hour of gorilla trekking. Gorilla trekking in Uganda is less expensive than the habituation experience. The Uganda Wildlife Authority designated two gorilla populations in the Rushaga and Nkuringo sectors of Bwindi for habituation in 2018-2019.

The Bikyinji family, which has 22 members, is located in the Rushaga sector of the park, as is the Bushaho family. The Bushaho family split from the Nkuringo family to form a new one. This group is commanded by a dominating silverback named Bahati (after the location where the group was originally spotted), who commands three adult females, an infant, a juvenile, a subadult, and a black back.

What happens during the Bwindi gorilla habituation experience?

Visitors scheduled for gorilla habituation experience/process meet at the Bwindi park headquarters in Rushaga at 7:30 a.m. for a briefing by authorities from the Uganda Wildlife Authority and the research team before the activity begins at 8:00 a.m. The gorilla habituation process requires a minimum of 15 years of age. It is recommended that anyone wishing to participate in the habituation process be physically fit enough to hike to the steeper and denser parts of the forests. These gorillas tend to wander to difficult-to-reach terrain and portions of the park. Sick people are not permitted to participate in the gorilla habituation procedure. Human infections such as influenza pose a concern to mountain gorillas. When photographing mountain gorillas, avoid using flash cameras. Do not try to imitate or mock gorillas. To avoid agitating them, keep at least 10 meters away.

The greatest time to see gorillas is usually during the high seasons. These go from December to March and June to October. However, you can also visit during the low season in April, May, October, or November. However, these months are unfavorable because of severe rains which make hiking difficult.

Due to the strong demand from travelers for the gorilla habituation experience and the limited amount of permits available per day, you must book early – at least 6 months before your visit is recommended. Permits can be obtained through the Uganda Wildlife Authority or your travel operator. Booking tickets requires your passport information.

Long-sleeved shirts made of synthetic material that dries quickly, gardening gloves, a hut, long trousers, a rain jacket, bottles of drinking water, hiking shoes, a camera, a walking stick, and, of course, insect repellents to protect you from mosquito bites should be included on parking lists of essentials. Pack some snacks or lunch because the habituation process normally takes the entire day. It’s also a good idea to employ porters who can help you carry large things and climb steep slopes.

When is the best time to go Gorilla Trekking in DR Congo?

Gorilla trekking safaris in Congo are available all year. The Virunga National Park has a tropical climate, but the best time to visit Congo for gorilla trekking tours is from May to September, during the dry season. The driest month is July, followed by August and June. Temperatures also fall slightly during those months. From December to February, there is also a shorter dry period. The wet season in the Virunga National Park occurs in November, which is by far the wettest month of the year. This may not be the best time to visit Congo for gorilla trekking safaris and tours. It also has the largest population of eastern lowland gorillas, with approximately 250 individuals. The species, also known as Grauer’s gorilla, is the largest of four gorilla subspecies, which include Mountain gorillas, Western lowland gorillas, Eastern lowland gorillas, and cross river gorillas.

Their primary foods include fruit, bamboo shoots, and other herbaceous materials. The majority of the lowland gorillas in the park have been habituated, which means they are quite at ease in the presence of humans.

A gorilla permit for eastern lowland gorilla trekking in Kahuzi-Biega national park costs USD 400 per person. Trekking usually starts at 7 a.m. with a briefing. Trekkers are then divided into groups of no more than eight people.

Trekking eastern lowland gorillas in the park can take 4 to 6 hours or more, depending on the gorillas’ location in the forest. The cost of seeing mountain gorillas in DR Congo varies depending on the level of accommodation and mode of transportation used. Nonetheless, the gorilla trekking permit in Virunga National Park is currently $400. Buffalo herds can also be seen roaming the area, while sitatunga, which is extremely adapted, can be seen in the wetlands. The Park is also home to a variety of bird species such as the Yellow-rumped tinkerbird, papyrus yellow warbler, mosque swallow, larger painted-snipe, blue-headed coucal, African scops owl, hairy-breasted barbet, and many others.

Animal & Birdlife in Lake Mburo National Park

Lake Mburo is home to a variety of animal species that congregate in various environments due to its diverse terrain. Zebras, Impalas, Elands, Hippos, Warthogs, African buffalo, jackals, African leopards, waterbuck, Oribi, sitatunga, and bushbuck are some of the wild animals that call the Park home.

Bird species in Lake Mburo include; The Rufous-bellied Heron, bateleur, Coqui Francolin, grey crowned crane, black-bellied bustard, brown-chested lapwing, emerald-spotted wood-dove, brown parrot, red-headed lovebird, Ross’s turaco, bare-faced go-away-bird, and green wood-hoopoe, among others.

The Park is home to more than 300 bird species. You might also see species like the common scimitar bill, white-headed barbet, red-faced barbet, Nubian woodpecker, red-shouldered cuckoo-shrike, long-tailed cisticola, yellow-breasted apalis, white-winged tit, finfoot, green pigeon, shoebill stork, etc.

Game Drives in Lake Mburo National Park

Game drives are the best way to encounter wild animals in Lake Mburo National Park. Many animals and birds can be seen on game drives in Lake Mburo.  The Park is the only destination in Uganda having Impalas and the only park in Western Uganda containing the Burchell Zebra. Leopards are occasionally seen on game drives. The environment is picturesque, with undulating hills, lakes, and wetlands where the Tanzanian Savannah meets Uganda. Game drives in Lake Mburo often last up to 4 hours. There are morning game drives and afternoon game drives. The morning game drives often start at sunrise (06:30 am) and the afternoon game drives start late in the afternoon (at around 3:00 pm)

Night Game Drives in Lake Mburo

These are designed to spot the nocturnal beasts, such as leopards and lions, as they search for prey in the darkness. They usually start at around 7 am and end at around 1o pm at night. Guided nature walks

The rooms have minimal furnishings and are roomy and comfortable. Ten cottages with double or twin beds are available. They are built on high platforms, making them excellent vantage points to see the forest beyond. There is also a family suite with two separate bedrooms for families. Each cottage has a separate veranda and en suite bathroom. The main building features a restaurant, bar, cozy fireplace, and deep, comfortable couches for guests to enjoy. It is stylishly constructed from wood with a thatched roof to blend in with the surroundings. Given how difficult a gorilla walk may be, the staff offers all visitors great massages and a laundry service gratis.

Buhoma Lodge was constructed with sustainability in mind; local materials were utilized to construct the structures, local ingredients are used in the restaurant, solar energy provides lighting, and all staff members were chosen from the neighborhood.

Clouds Mountain gorilla lodge

13 Days Uganda Rwanda Primates Safari itinerary

Day 1: Arrive and Kampala city excursion.

Depending on where you want to be picked from, our expert driver-guide will be there in time. The safari will start with a briefing about the trip, responding to all your questions and a sip of a glass of juice. Thereafter, he will gladly take you to the reptile village to see different reptile species, notably the snakes such as python, the tortoise, and the chameleons among others.

Afterwards, you will proceed to town for Lunch, the independence monuments, and the Uganda museum respectively. The Uganda Museum is the oldest in the country, with different cultural and historical symbols.  When all is done, the driver will take you to the hotel for dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Drive to Murchison Falls N/P via Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary.

After enjoying a yummy breakfast meal at the lodge, you will set off very early in the morning for Murchison falls national park, a 5-6 hour drive, through a route marked with green vegetation, busy towns, and undulating Hills. Day 3: Game drive, Boat cruise and Top of the Falls Hike

There will be a lunch break, before arriving at the lodge late in the evening for refreshment, dinner and a nap.

Day 5: Birding, nature walk and night game drive.

After breakfast, depart the lodge to Semiliki forest, a paradise to over 20% of Uganda’s rare bird species. This search gives you an opportunity of uncovering the rare sound, sight, and characteristics of the different birds in the wild, notably; the sought-after shoebill stork, Sassi’s olive greenbelt, Black-collared lovebird, and spot-breasted ibis.

After photo moments, you will go for lunch and then spend about 1-2 hours, at the fascinating Hot springs. The female Sempaya hot spring resembles a women’s feature and produces hot water that can boil an egg to the eating point. Thereafter, you will have a night game drive to look out for the different nocturnal creatures moving. Call off this day with dinner and a nap at the lodge.

Day 6: Drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park – afternoon boat cruise.

On this day, wake up at leisure, enjoy your delicious meal, and then depart for Queen Elizabeth National Park; a 2-3 drive that leaves you admiring the backdrop of the giant magnificent snowcapped mountain Rwenzori, and lush vegetation.

Arrive and enjoy a mouthwatering lunch meal at the lodge, followed by an interesting afternoon boat cruise at the Kazinga channel. The boat cruise experience exposes you to several aquatic residents such as crocodiles, hippos, and birds among others. Thereafter, you will return to the lodge for dinner and a nap.

Day 7: Full day Game drive.

Lunch break comes in, before heading to the Ishasha sector to track tree climbing lions. Chances are that you may spot one or more lions resting on the tree branches or hunting. Thereafter, you will enjoy a sunset drive to the lodge for dinner and a nap.

Day 8: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park.

At daybreak, you will enjoy a heavy breakfast meal at the lodge, and then checkout for a transfer to Volcanoes national park– Rwanda’s most visited national park, and home to the endangered mountain gorillas. You will cross the breathtaking Uganda – Rwanda border post, where there will be document verification before proceeding to the park. The drive exposes you to rolling hills and green vegetation. End the day with dinner and a nap.

Day 9: Mountain gorilla trekking and Cultural encounter.

Start your day with a hefty breakfast meal, followed by an exit to the park headquarters. There you will be registered and briefed about gorilla trekking experience, different gorilla families, and the trekking rules. Located around the giant Virunga chain of mountains, it is here and other 3 conservation areas where mountain gorillas can be found in the entire world.

You will be assigned a Gorilla family, of which you will track, from the place they were last seen. It can take approximately 1-7 hours of the search, plus one extra hour to watch them play, rest or feed. Thereafter, you will have a lunch break, before visiting the locals residing around the Park. The cultural experience stretches to sunset when you will return to the lodge for dinner and a nap.

Day 10: Transfer to Nyungwe National Park.

At daybreak, you will have a Lip-smacking breakfast meal at the lodge. Thereafter, have an optional 1-2 hour Musanze cave exploration. Musanze cave is very safe, with very huge bats inside. It offers a chance for perfect photography and discovery.

Afterwards, hit the road to Nyungwe National Park – home to various chimpanzees. The route is decorated with rolling hills, flourishing plantations and scattered homesteads. There will be lunch break before proceeding to your lodge at the park. A sunset arrival leads to dinner and a nap.

Day 11: Chimpanzee trekking and Canopy walk.

At daybreak, you will greet your intestines with a yummy breakfast meal and then head to the park headquarters for a pre trekking briefing. Nyungwe national park is an asylum to over 13 different primate species, with chimpanzees dominating. Chimp tracking may last for 1-5 hours depending on your hiking speed, as well as the direction they have taken.

Across the jungle, you will listen to different sides, and see different residents playing, feeding, or relaxing.  You will be given a maximum of one hour of watching the cousins – the Chimps play, relax or feed. Chances are that you can also come across a forest mammal.

Thereafter, you will have a lunch break, followed by an afternoon amazing walk on the magically erected canopy on the trees. Its positions give you a perfect opportunity of watching several birds and primates play on the treetop, captivating landscape and scattered homesteads.

Day 12: Kivu beach experience.

Fresh from the bed, you will enjoy a relaxed breakfast meal at the lodge, and then head for a full day refreshment at Lake Kivu – Rwanda’s largest freshwater lake, with the most beautiful sand beaches. Among the many activities you may engage in include; swimming, boat ride, beach soccer and photography. You Lunch will be here, but then at sunset, you will return to the lodge for dinner and a nap.

Day 13: Departure.

After breakfast, you will bid farewell to your new friends and then checkout for a drive to Kigali internal airport for your flight. If time allows, then you will visit the Rwanda Genocide site to pay tribute to Over 250,000 people who lost their lives during the Tutsi and Hutu rebellion, as well as the local markets to purchase souvenirs. This will mark the end of your 13 Days Uganda Rwanda Primates Safari.

10 Days African Gorilla Trekking Circuit detailed itinerary.

Day 1: To Kibale Forest from Entebbe / Kampala.

Following a delicious African breakfast, join your safari guide to leave Kampala or Entebbe and begin a 6 hour journey towards the west region. Just before set off, the guide will brief you about the entire safari and your tour package! Depart for Kibale Forest National park with a brief stop at Nakayima spiritual tree where you will find the Baganda natives praying and offering sacrifices to their gods.

Proceed to Fort portal for lunch and have a quick exploration of this beautiful tourism city. From there, drive to your lodge near Kibale Forest National park, the primate capital of Africa for evening relaxation and overnight stay.

Day 2: Chimpanzee trekking & Bigodi wetland walk

Rise up very early, have breakfast, get your packed lunch and transfer to Kanyanchu Visitor Information Centre for registration and pre trekking briefing.  At 8:00am, begin a hike into the jungle in search of the endangered chimpanzees. The loud shouts and laughs of chimpanzees from a distance notify you on which direction to take for easy access.

You will see other primates such as Vervet monkeys, red tailed monkeys, white and black tailed monkeys and blue monkeys among others. Spend an hour with the chimpanzee community, see how each member performs a different duty just like in a human family.  In the evening, you will go for a guided nature walk to explore this natural swamp on foot. Bigodi swamp houses several reptiles, birds and primates.

Day 3: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth Park – Evening boat cruise.

Wakeup early, have a hot cup of coffee, check out and depart for Queen Elizabeth National Park. Enjoy this scenic drive via tea farms, banana plantations and local trading centers which give you chance to interact with local people. Have lunch at your lodge in Queen Elizabeth National Park and embark on the afternoon boat cruise at Kazinga Channel. The cruise is a great chance to see numerous birds and water animals on the riverbanks.

Day 4: Ishasha sector – Transfer to Bwindi Forest.

Have an early morning breakfast, checkout and go a morning game drive via Ishasha sector, home for famous and rare tree climbing lions. Look up in the fig trees to see the kings of the jungle resting lazily above you.

The game drive will offer you great views of other wild animals in Queen Elizabeth national park such as Elephants, Buffalos, Hippos, Uganda kobs, Topis and waterbucks among others. Have lunch enroute and transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National park via Kihihi – Buhoma road.

Day 5: Mountain gorilla trekking & transfer to PNV.

This is a great day to trek the endangered mountain gorillas of Uganda in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National park. Wakeup very early, have heavy delicious breakfast, and with your packed lunch transfer to the respective park headquarters from regulations and briefing on the dos and don’ts of gorilla trekking.

You will be organized within small manageable groups of eight and each assigned a gorilla family to visit. The trek to see gorillas starts at 8:00am lasting for between 30 minutes to over 7 hours. After meeting the endangered species, you will be allowed to spend an hour in their company. Take pictures, learn their social behaviors, capture videos, and see how mothers nurse babies as well as silverback guarding the family just like in a normal home.

Trek back to the trailhead after this adventure, meet your driver guide and cross to Rwanda driving straight to Volcanoes National Park

Day 6: Golden Monkey trekking / Dian Fossey graveyard hike.

Today you have two travel experiences to choose from. You can either trek golden monkeys of hike to graveyard of Dina Fossey, an American Primatologist who lost her life to save the endangered gorillas that w ere at the verge of extinction. Both experiences are enjoyable and worth the efforts. On either experiences, you have high chances of meeting other primates, birds and other animals that live in Volcanoes National park.

Day 7: Iby’iwacu cultural village & transfer to Goma.

After relaxed morning breakfast, check out of the lodge and drive to Ibyiwacu cultural village. There you will experience Rwanda’s traditions, norms and beliefs. Dances, songs and stories are all performed to introduce you to Rwanda and tell you more about this small land of a thousand hills.

From there, proceed on your journey to Goma Rwanda’s border with the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Day 8: Nyiragongo Volcano hiking.

Wakeup up very early and transfer to Kibatsi patrol village for registration and briefing on the safety precautions of Nyiragongo Volcano climbing. Hiking starts at 10:00am and all travelers must be there by that time.

Along with your porter and other climbers, start off the hike upon to the summit of the active Nyiragongo Volcano. The hiking time to the summit is between 5-7 hours depending on the hiking speed of the slowest person in your group. At night, you will observe the boiling lava lake, which glows at night. Overnight on the slopes of the Volcano.

Day 9: Descend and transfer back to Kigali.

Enjoy sunrise breakfast on the summit of Nyiragongo Volcano and enjoy the last moments of this natural wonder. You will then check out of your bandas, hike down and find your driver guide waiting for you at the base of the volcano. From there, drive back to Kigali to prepare for your next day’s departure.

Day 10: City tour and departure.

What to do and see today depend on your flight departure time. You can have a city tour in Kigali to visit genocide memorial museum, Inema art gallery as well as Kigali Convention Centre. Drive to the airport for your connecting flight. This will mark the end of your 10 Days African Gorilla Trekking Circuit.

End of safari.

The activities to engage in include among others; cultural encounter, wildlife viewing through game drive, birding, photography, chimpanzee trekking, Gorilla tracking, and nature walk among others. 10 Days Uganda Primates & Masai Mara Wildlife Safari itinerary. 

Day 1: Arrival.

Upon landing at the airport, you will be picked by our experienced driver guide for a remarkable 10day safari. There will be briefing first, before visiting the Reptile Village to know of the different reptile species, notably; python snake, chameleons, tortoise, and young crocodiles among others. The reptile village is a protection area for the different reptiles rescued within the locality. It’s a village based initiative directed towards boasting the Ecosystem. Afterwards, you will head for Lunch if need be, before driving to the lodge for refreshment, dinner and sweet slumber.

Day 2: Transfer to Kibale Forest National Park.

You will start your day with a satisfying breakfast meal at the lodge, before you checkout of the lodge for a transfer to Kibale forest national park; home to over 13 unique primate species in the world. The stunning landscape, plantations and scattered homesteads among others will offer a perfect company to your lodge in or around the park for refreshment, dinner and a nap. Note that lunch will be enroute.

Day 3: Chimpanzee trekking and Isunga cultural center.

Today, Wakeup like to a tasty cup of coffee early in the morning before embarking on your chimpanzee trek. Head for document verification and briefing at the park headquarters. There the park rangers will explain to you the tracking rules and well as accompany you through the jungle to find them. As you make each step, pay attention to the sound and sight of the different residents such as; birds, primates and plant species.

Most common of the primates are; Colobus monkeys, grey-cheeked mangabeys and the vervet monkeys among others. You will be given additional one hour to watch the chimpanzees feed, play and relax. Thereafter you will return to the lodge for lunch, and then an after visit to Isunga community for a cultural experience. Amazing dance and drama will be exhibited, before you return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 4: Drive to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

After the last dot of tea in your cup, you will checkout of the lodge for a drive to Bwindi impenetrable forest national park; home to the endangered mountain Gorillas, while enjoying breathtaking landscape, plantations, and scattered homesteads, yet with an enroute stopover for lunch. You will end this day with dinner and overnight.

Day 5: Morning Gorilla trekking and optional Batwa pygmies encounter.

Gorilla trekking is the highlight of every African safari. Very early in the morning, you will take an energy giving cup of coffee at the lodge, followed by a drive to the sectors headquarters for briefing and document verification. Thereafter the park rangers will accompany you through the jungle in search for the Apes. A hike that passes via the area the creatures was last seen the previous day.

This exercise may last for approximately 1-6 hours, plus a bonus of one extra for photos and more observation. Thereafter you will return to the lodge for Lunch, and then spend the evening enjoying the local drive from the Batwa pygmies who are former hunters and gatherers in the lush jungle of Virunga forest. You will end this day at the lodge refreshed, satisfied with a yummy dinner meal, and a peaceful nap.

Day 6: Fly to Nairobi – Kenya through Entebbe.

After breakfast, you will checkout of the lodge very early in the morning for a long hour drive to Entebbe international airport for a flight to Nairobi Kenya. You will have an enroute stop at the Equator to watch the magical demonstration at the point where the marginal line crosses the northern and southern hemisphere.

You will take photos and have lunch, before arriving at the airport. Upon landing at Nairobi, our company representative will gladly meet and brief you before proceeding to the lodge for refreshment, dinner and overnight slumber.

Day 7: Drive to Masai Mara national reserve.

At daybreak, breakfast is introduced, and then checking out of the lodge for a transfer to Masai Mara national park; Africa’s top travel destination, and home to the highest concentration of lions. You will stop at the Great Rift Valley for photography and sightseeing with the magnificent mountains right at site.

Thereafter you will proceed for lunch at Narus center, before entering the park with game viewing to the lodge. You will check in to your lodge for dinner late in the evening for dinner and overnight.

Day 8: Full day Game drive.

After your lip-smacking breakfast meal, you will spend this entire day roaming around the different territories at Masai conservation area. Maasai Mara is famous for its lion population, and variety of biodiversity. In your safari van, you will spread your eyes through the captivating landscape, focusing on the different prey, predators, birds, and unique tree species. The mammals here are not limited to lions, leopards, cheetahs, Rhinos, wildebeest, zebras, and different antelope species. There will be a picnic lunch by the shore line of the Mara River, where you will spend the rest of the day watching the crocodiles, hippos and several others. Dinner and overnight marks the end of the day.

Day 9: Morning birding and afternoon Cultural encounter

At sunrise, you will enjoy a glass of coffee at the lodge, and then join your birder guide for a rewarding Birding experience. This will run for several hours as you seek to identify the different resident birds, their birds, and unique characteristics. Among the many birds you should expect include; ostriches, flamingoes, and lovebirds among others.

Thereafter, you will have a lunch break, followed by an unforgettable encounter with the Maasai warriors; proud herdsmen who have not departed from their cultural practices for decades.

Day 10: Departure.

After breakfast, you will checkout of the lodge for a drive to the airport for the flight to the next destination. 10 Days Uganda Primates & Zanzibar Beach Tour Detailed itinerary

Day 1: Transfer to a hotel upon arrival at Entebbe Airport

Take a flight up-to Entebbe International Airport and upon early arrival, meet your driver guide for transfer to a hotel.

Day 2: Murchison Falls National Park

Have a delicious cup of tea or coffee and after, set off from your hotel to Murchison Falls National Park in Northwestern Uganda. In a pop-up roof Van/Land cruiser, you will have en-route visit at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary in Nakasongola where you will track rhinos. After, proceed to Murchison Falls for evening game drive and later, get dinner and overnight stay at the lodge.

Day 3: Game drive & Launch trip

Breakfast early in the morning and after, go explore Murchison Falls National Park’s pristine savannas on a morning game drive. You will come across the Rothschild giraffes, lions, Uganda Kobs, Jackson’s Hartebeest, oribis, leopards, buffaloes, elephants, warthogs, birds and others. Retreat from the 2-3 hours’ wildlife viewing tour and have lunch. In the afternoon, expect to embark on a boat/launch cruise to the bottom of Murchison Falls. While on a cruise, expect to sight hippos, Nile crocodiles, aquatic birds and a chance to hike to the top of the falls.

Day 4: Visit Kibale Forest National Park

Enjoy your leisurely breakfast and after, drive to Kibale forest national park. En-route, get the best of the Albert escarpment and jaw-dropping views of Mt. Rwenzori. At Fort Portal Tourism City, make a stop for lunch and connect to Kibale while viewing the extensive tea plantations.

Day 5: Chimpanzee tracking & nature walks in Bigodi

After breakfast, you will be briefed by park official about chimpanzee tracking guidelines at Kanyanchu Visitor Centre. The 2-4 chimpanzee trek begins at 8:00am once you have been allocated park guide. You will also come across many other species of primates, birds while on search for chimpanzees. You will enjoy a complete 1 hour with chimpanzees and also take many photos.

Get back to the lodge in Kibale to relax and be served lunch. Later, you will go for Bigodi nature walk. This is a rewarding swamp walk offering you opportunity to sight diversity of primates, birds plus other mammals.

Day 6: Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Enjoy your cup of tea or coffee and after, travel to Bwindi via Fort Portal then drive through Ishasha to spot the tree climbing lions. Dinner and overnight at the lodge you booked in Bwindi impenetrable national park.

Day 7: Gorilla trekking

After a cup of tea or coffee, assemble at Bwindi offices where you will meet official and other trekkers. You will be briefed on gorilla trekking rules, assigned a gorilla group (Bwindi has a total of 20 habituated gorilla families available for gorilla trekking) and the park guide to lead on a gorilla trek. Actual search for gorillas starts at 8:00am and can take 2-6 hours which includes 1 hour for photo taking and learning about their behaviors. Get back after gorilla trek to chill at the lodge and you will pay a visit to the Batwa community.

Day 8: Transfer to Zanzibar

Have a hefty breakfast and after, drive to Kihihi/Kisoro airstrip where you will fly back to Entebbe airport. From Entebbe airport, take a flight to Zanzibar.

Day 9: Tour spice farm

Get up for an early morning breakfast and after, set off explore the spice farms. Get to know how variety of spices are grown and have opportunity to taste some or purchase some. After, have lunch and then have relaxed afternoon or go swimming.

Day 10: Departure

After a cup of tea or coffee, drive to the airport to fly back home and this marks the end of the 10 Days Uganda Primates & Zanzibar Beach Tour.
