Day 1: Drive to Virunga national park, via Goma
Upon your arrival at Kigali airport, our driver-guide will welcome you for the rare opportunity of trekking both lowland and mountain Gorillas in a single safari, he will brief you before driving off to Virunga national park where you will track the mountain Gorillas the next day. En route, expect to visit Lake Kivu before proceeding to your lodge in the park.
Day 2: Mountain Gorilla Trekking & Community walk
Rise early from bed and have breakfast before heading to the parks headquarters for briefing before embarking into the jungle for your gorilla trek. During the briefing, the park rangers will take you through the code of conduct while trekking the primates, they will also accompany you to the forest to search for the gorillas starting from the point they were last seen, following the broken tree branches till the point where you find them, all this will need fitness.
Depending on how far the Gorillas will have moved, you roam for approximately 4 hours with one hour left for you to closely observe their unique attributes. Thereafter, have lunch and head for a guided village walk up to late at night only returning for dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Head to Kahuzi Biega National Park – Home of the Lowland gorillas
After an early morning breakfast, you will check out the lodge and drive to Kahuzi national park, the infamous home to the lowland Gorillas not easily traced anywhere else apart from the Democratic Republic of Congo. En route; you will have a stopover for lunch and sightseeing, then proceed with the journey to the lodge at the park headquarters for dinner and overnight.
Day 4: Lowland Gorilla Trekking and Cultural Encounter
After morning breakfast, the driver guide will drive you to Kahuzi Biega national park headquarters for a pre-trekking briefing before accompanying you to the park for yet another unforgettable experience of viewing the low land gorillas in their natural habitat.
This interesting activity lasts for approximately 4 hours depending on how far they have gone and also your fitness and walking speed, you need a support walking stick; perfect hiking boots and comfortable hiking attire that will keep you experience an interrupted.
You then have lunch, refresh and go for an evening walk to the nearby villages where you will watch how the locals go by with their activities as well as the amazing traditional performance. have fun until That time when you will return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 5: Departure
Depending on your flight schedule, you will have a very delicious cup of coffee then check out of the lodge for a return journey, when you reach Kigali city yet time still permits, visit the local markets to buy some souvenirs or visit the Kigali Genocide memorial before getting to the airport for your outbound flight.
