The park covers approximately 1,970 square kilometers and is considered Uganda’s second largest national park. Game viewing in the Kasenyi, Mweya, and Ishasha Sectors, nature walks, chimp trekking in the exhilarating Kyambura Gorge, a boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel, birding, and other activities are available in Queen Elizabeth National Park. Water bodies, savanna grasslands, primates, mammals, and bird species are among the wildlife that can be seen during these activities.

Queen Elizabeth National Park contains a number of crater lakes formed as a result of the vulcanization of molten rock (lava), which involves a violent eruption that reaches the top of a volcano cone, which is then blown off, forming a large basin surrounded by lava, a harsh realm, and rock debris. The crater’s end results are quite interesting, and a trip to Queen Elizabeth is rewarding because you get to see so much beauty in one place.

Crater drives in Queen Elizabeth

This crater drives in Queen Elizabeth are known as the Explosion Crater drives and last around two hours. Experiencing the magnificence of these craters is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. You should travel early in the morning or late at night, when visibility is optimum and temperatures are at their lowest. Lake Katwe, a large body of water next to Lake Edward, is well-known for its salt mining history. Visitors may learn about the process of salt mining in the area, from the installation of the salt pans to the actual entry into the water, at this lake.

Visitors may also view how salt is manufactured from super-concentrated salty water at the lake’s ancient salt factory and works during the dry season. As you drive through the carters, you will be able to observe the craters, the Rwenzori Mountains, the Kazinga channel that connects Lake George to Lake Edward, the two lakes, and a variety of species that dwell in the craters.

Elephants, buffaloes, and other hippos may be seen nearby. This crater tour requires a 4WD vehicle because the route may be rough, rock-strewn, and slippery when it rains. When the weather is nice, driving about the Crater lakes is enjoyable.

Other Safari Activities in Queen Elizabeth National Park

Game drives

Several game drives at Queen Elizabeth National Park will allow you to observe a range of interesting things during your Uganda safari tour. You may also join in nocturnal game drives while in the park to observe how the park comes to life when the sun goes down. Night jars are among the prominent bird species that might be spotted during night game drives.

Boat cruise on The Kazinga Channel

The Kazinga Channel part of Queen Elizabeth National Park offers a totally unique experience for all tourists to Africa. Birding at Murchison Falls National Park is possible all year, although the ideal time for birdwatching is during the dry season, which runs from January to March. During this time, the park receives less visitors, and lodges typically offer cheaper rates on lodging. Birding is still outstanding from December to February, albeit the park receives considerable rain, which may interfere with your birding time.

The shoebill is one of the most impressive attractions and bird species in Murchison Falls, although it is difficult to observe during the dry season, which runs from January to March. From November through April, migratory birds from Europe and North Africa arrive.

Birds in the Murchison Falls National Park

Abyssinia Ground hornbill

The Abyssinian ground hornbill is a big ground hornbill. A male Abyssinian ground hornbill has bare facial skin that is a combination of blue and red, whereas a female has totally blue facial skin. In flying, the wings expose a huge white patch. This bird is commonly spotted in Murchison Falls National Park’s plain savanna grasslands and the park’s neighboring agricultural fields. The Abyssinian ground hornbill travels in pairs or small groups on the ground. They always nest and breed in trees. The range of the Abyssinian ground hornbill is very identical to that of the southern ground hornbill, however the Abyssinian is easily differentiated by its blue facial skin. The Abyssinian call is a succession of deep “boop” sounds.

Black-headed lapwing

The Black-headed lapwing is regularly seen in Uganda and other East African countries at an altitude of 1800m in semi-arid and bushy plains. The Black-headed lapwing is most commonly observed in the northern Murchison Falls region, from Paraa to the Albert Nile marshes. You will be able to view them in pairs or small groups on early-game drives. The black-headed lapwing has a tiny black crown and a black line down the middle of the breast, and it flies with broad white bands across the wings. The Black-headed lapwing is most active at night, early morning, and late afternoon. The Black-headed lapwing’s cry is a harsh, woody, repeated “krep.”

Grey-crowned crane

Balearica regulorum is the scientific name for the grey-crowned crane. With a blue-gray crane, a black-and-white face, and a crown of golden-yellow feathers, this bird is magnificent. Grey crested cranes get rustier as they grow older. Singles, couples, and flocks favor the marshes and flooded grasslands of Uganda’s Murchison Falls National Park. Yes, grey-crowned cranes live in waterlogged places, however, they may become locally migratory in reaction to rain. The low mournful bugling “maaah-hem” cry of a flock of grey-crowned cranes can be heard on a daily basis. The Black Crowned Crane is similar to the Grey Crowned Crane but has slaty-gray coloring, smaller red facial wattles, and red-and-white cheek patches.

Senegal thick-knee

Murchison Falls National Park’s common birds are the Senegal thick-knee. Burhinus senegalensis is its scientific name. The Senegal thick-knee is a huge shorebird with a larger and heavier beak than Eurasian and Water Thick-knee. It is also worth noting that this bird has a gray mid-wing panel with no black-and-white pattern. The Senegal thick knee is extremely loud, especially at night, emitting a range of loud whistles and trills.

Shoebill

The Shoebill is a distinct bird with its own family. The Shoebill is an uncommon bird seen in Murchison Falls National Park, yet following it is an exciting experience for bird enthusiasts. Spotting a shoebill tracking at Murchison Falls National Park is simple when on a guided Nile boat safari. A bot ride will take you downstream into the park’s marshy delta section. The shoebill is often found alone or in pairs in deep marshes, particularly papyrus swamps. A shoebill is similar to a stork, but with a broad neck and a large hooked bill. Murchison Falls offers some of the most stunning wildlife-watching opportunities, with game drives spotting the plentiful Rothchild’s giraffe, buffalo, elephants, and lions preying on the plains’ abundant antelope. The Nile River, which flows from Lake Kyoga into Lake Albert, divides Murchison Park into northern and southern halves, providing a magnet for species concentration on the Victoria Nile’s banks. The Nile boat excursion visits the park’s most numerous wildlife populations on the Nile’s banks.

In Murchison Falls National Park, there are two methods to experience the mighty Nile. Tourists take the boat journey up the Victoria Nile waters to the bottom of the thundering falls from the Paraa pier and climb up from Baker’s rock to Fagio Gorge to watch the falls from above.

The other boat tour departs from Paraa jetty and travels down the calm Nile waters to the papyrus-filled delta. This is where the Nile meets Lake Albert before splitting off to the north. Both provide amazing views of wildlife along the Nile’s banks—the closest you can get to Uganda’s big game creatures.

Nile Delta boat cruise

The Nile Delta boat excursion is located twenty kilometers downstream from the Paraa jetty in Murchison Falls National Park. It is home to a plethora of magnificent waterbird species, including the prehistoric-looking shoebill stork, which is a popular sighting for most travelers on the Nile Delta boat excursion. The three-hour Delta boat ride from Murchison’s West Paraa district via the picturesque Buligi area to Lake Albert Delta Point brings travelers up up and personal with fantastic animal encounters. On the Nile’s banks, you may expect to see herds of elephants, buffalo, and giraffe.

The boat travels the sluggish Victoria Nile waters in the Albert Delta in search of the vast birds chattering of the papyrus and marshy vegetation. With a whale-like head, keep an eye out for the storky bird hunting in the swamp for fish and frogs. The shoebill is a highlight encounter in these areas of the park, but the scenery is equally relaxing for an afternoon sunset boat excursion.

The Victoria Nile runs through the northern edge of Lake Albert to form the Albert Nile, which flows up into South Sudan at the Albert Nile Delta. Spend some time in the delta; you could see elephants, Nile crocodiles, and other spectacular species before cruising back up the Nile to the Paraa jetty. A planned Nile delta trip with “breakfast on board” is available in the mornings (subject to minimum numbers.) The delta cruise departs from the jetty at Paraa on the south bank at 7:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. We can also customize your delta cruise tour with a private boat and schedules to meet your travel needs.

Boat cruise to the Bottom of Murchison Falls

The boat cruise to the bottom of Murchison Falls, the world’s most powerful waterfall, is the most popular activity in the park. The trip also begins from the Paraa jetty and cruises up the Nile, passing through a show of stunning wildlife along the Victoria Nile river banks before docking at Baker’s Rock for those who want to walk up Murchison Falls.

The River Nile gashes out roughly 300 cubic meters per second (11,000 ft3/s) of water through a tiny gouge less than 10 meters (33 ft) wide at the peak of Murchison Falls, generating 50-metermeter broad splashes and a constant rainbow. The raging water then cascades over the falls and back onto the Nile path, where it flows quietly down the Victoria Nile. Guests may pause at the base to watch this amazing scene unfold, which is surrounded by hippo pods, or trek up the cliff to see the spectacle from above.

Murchison Falls launch tours typically depart at 0900 and 1400. We may also organize a private boat excursion up the Nile for a sundowner or breakfast cruise. The boat cruise might last between three and four hours.

Boat cruise in Murchison Falls National Park

nikita

Africa Adventure safaris

East Africa Safaris

Travel Blog

Uganda Attractions

Uganda Safaris

Uganda Travel Packages

Wildlife safaris

Boat cruise in Murchison Falls National Park: One of the most exciting activities in Murchison Falls Game Park is a boat tour in Murchison Falls National Park. The boat ride along the Victoria Nile leads you to the bottom of the Murchison Falls. On this Launch trip, you will be able to observe a variety of animals as well as a close-up view of the world’s most powerful falls. In comparison to all other national parks in Uganda, Murchison Falls National Park is the largest and most visited. It is one of the top sites on Uganda wildlife safaris, with a diverse range of distinctive tourism attractions that provide travelers with exceptional experiences on a Uganda safari.

The park is well-known for the magnificent Murchison waterfall, as well as a diverse selection of wildlife activities available to all visitors. Boat cruise in Murchison Falls National Park is one of the excellent activities enjoyed by many visitors to Murchison Falls National Park.

Some of the animal activities that are likely to be observed on Uganda safaris include chimps, white and black monkeys, grey checked monkeys, and other primates in the Budongo forest, as well as elephants, buffaloes, Rothschild giraffes, zebras, impalas antelopes, lions, and leopards, among others. A boat ride at Murchison Falls National Park may be done on either the Nile or the Delta. The timetables and time spent on the journey differ, but they provide almost the same experience as Murchison Falls National Park.

Nile river cruise

The boat tour in Murchison Falls National Park begins at Paraa jet and a Nile boat cruise trip will take you to the foot of the falls, which is the beginning place for climbing to the top of the falls, and then you will be carried back to the Paraa after two to three hours. The Nile boat operates in two sessions: the morning session, which begins at 9:00 a.m., and the evening session, which begins at 2:00 p.m. While on the Nile boat trip, you will get the opportunity to see a variety of exotic creatures such as elephants sipping water on the river banks, Nile crocodiles, hippos, zebras, and waterbucks, among others. Visitors will also get the opportunity to see wildlife birds such as the red-throated bee-eater, hornbills, and malachite king fisher on the riverbank.

Nile Delta Boat Cruise

This takes a long time compared to the Nile boat, which takes roughly 4-5 hours and departs from Paraa jet on several times throughout the day. The Nile delta boat is the greatest way to appreciate it, especially for bird watchers. During the Nile delta boat trip, you will get the opportunity to see several bird species such as the African fish Eagle, African jacana, saddle bellied, yellow footed king fisher, papyrus gonolek, open billed stork, and goliath heron along the river bank as well as the Murchison fall gorge. A boat tour safari will allow you to see many of the park’s wildlife wonders and species, including the Nile crocodile, a large population of hippos, elephants, Uganda kobs, African buffaloes, zebras, and waterbucks, among others. The Nile delta boat excursion provides you with the opportunity to see views of the Congo’s mountain ranges, as well as fisherman catching fish and the wonderful vistas and lovely scenery of the Murchison falls.

Aside from the Nile and Delta boat cruises, there are other private boats that run on the Victoria Nile that can be found at Paraa jet and can be booked whenever a tourist wants to experience a boat cruise excursion.

How much does a boat cruise in Murchison Falls National Park cost?

The Uganda Wildlife Authority has established regular fixed rates for boat cruise tours in practically all national parks, including Murchison Falls. The Nile boat excursion is $30 per person, whereas the Delta boat cruise is $40 per person.

Best time to do a boat cruise in Murchison Falls National Park.

Boat cruises are available throughout the year in Murchison Falls National Park, however the best time to go is during the dry season, when there is less rain to disrupt your pleasant ride on the Victoria Nile. This occurs between the months of December to February, June to October, when, owing to the hot weather, many wildlife species congregate on the Nile banks to quench their thirst.

Apoka Rest Camp

nikita

Accommodation In Kidepo

Africa Adventure safaris

Birding safaris

Cultural tours in Uganda

East Africa Safaris

Hiking safaris

Travel Blog

Uganda Attractions

Uganda cultural tours

Uganda Safaris

Uganda Travel Packages

Wildlife safaris

Apoka Rest Camp is a low-cost safari lodging located in the middle of Kidepo valley National Park, near the park headquarters. Apoka Rest Camp is operated and administered by the Uganda Wildlife Authority. Apoka Rest Camp includes sixteen self-contained cottages, each with attractive mattresses and mosquito nets. The rooms, on the other hand, are created and fashioned in an African style of architecture and have good fresh air despite the lack of an air conditioner. Staying here requires more forethought; you must prepare ahead of time what you will bring, such as food and drinks, in order to sustain your whole stay in the park. The Apoka Rest Camp features fourteen bandas, each with two beds, however the rooms are not self-contained.

Apoka Rest Camp features a vast and open property that is popular for camping. If you want to go camping, you can do so, but you must provide your own camping equipment because the lodge merely provides a camping site. The lodge does not have an operating restaurant; you will need to bring your own food to feed on. We recommend that you pack your food from Kampala or Mbale, Gulu, and other dependable metropolitan towns, which may offer cuisine of your interest. The camp has some refrigeration, and you may bring in frozen meat. Markets sell eggs, bread, and prepared soups, and you can make a stew with anything from vegetables to meat or chicken.

Other accommodation in Kidepo Valley National Park

Kidepo Savanna Lodge

The outskirts of one of Uganda’s most magnificent national parks lies this pristine lodge. Kidepo Savanna Lodge is the newest and most remote Nature Lodges property. This lodge pays honor to this natural jewel, which has garnered multiple international accolades as one of Africa’s best parks. The lodge is practically a stone’s throw from the park, being only 500 meters from the Kalokudo gate. It provides breathtaking views of the vast Narus Valley, Mount Morungole, and the distant mountain ranges that constitute the boundary with Southern Sudan. The savannah surroundings, meadows, rocky outcrops, and… the Karamojong, the tribe with their typical manyattas and colorful blankets, inspired the resort. Because the resort needed to fit in rather than stand out, they chose between the more opulent self-contained safari tents and the more comfortable lazy camping tents.

Apoka safari Lodge

Apoka safari Lodge is designed for comfort, despite its remote location. Spacious, private cottages cluster around a rocky kopje overlooking the Narus River, each with a screened balcony, outdoor stone tub (ideal for a starlit soak), and exquisitely handcrafted furnishings by local artisans. The wildlife is abundant – lions, leopards, cheetahs, elephants, buffalo, giraffes, and zebras, to name a few – and can often be seen from the comfort and privacy of your suite, or from the cool waters of our natural rock pool.

Adere Safari Lodge

Adere Safari Lodge is a high-end safari lodge perched on the edge of Kidepo Valley National Park in a unique natural setting that allows visitors to enjoy the magic of seeing wildlife up-close while simply relaxing by the pool, giving you worthwhile and transformational safari memories of Africa. Adere Safari Lodge features custom-designed safari cottages with functional luxury touches, exclusive settings in Kidepo Park’s Wilderness to immerse you in a truly African authentic experience unlike any other.

Camping in Kidepo Valley National Park

Camping in Kidepo National Park is one of the most authentic ways to interact with wildlife. Aside from being a less expensive way to visit the park, your Uganda safari tour allows you to get up close and personal with the animals. From stunning flat plains teeming with grasses to plateaus teeming with woods, arid riverbanks fringed with desert palm trees, and mountains teeming with montane forests, there is something for everyone. Kidepo Valley National Park is a Uganda safari destination that has it all. Each region has its own set of wildlife animals, birds, and other wildlife species that grab every traveler’s interest as they go about their daily activities. The stunning natural environs pique visitors’ interest but also raising doubts.

Many tourists find it difficult to resist the desire to venture into the wilderness, explore it, and uncover the beauty hidden away from the population. It should be noted that any climb requires a ranger escort. Many guests leave Apoka assured that the ranger has the necessary experience and drive to meet the visitors’ goals. The optimal time to begin the trekking safari is early in the morning, before the heat of the day rise. Lomej Mountains are the most popular hiking safari location since hikers meet magnificent sightings along the route and it just takes a few hours for even novice hikers. The peak of the Lomej Mountains provides breathtaking views over the Narus valley and surrounding places.

The Kidepo valley hiking safari allows you to discover the picturesque sand banks surrounded by gorgeous borassus palm groves. Winds whip the palm woods in all directions, creating a cracking sound as branches crash into one other, transporting trekkers to another realm. Many visitors find the Kidepo Valley sand banks to be an ideal location for a picnic lunch, sand sports, photography, and sundowners. Other adventurers travel the additional mile to the Kanangorok hot spring and discover a unique natural spa with interesting legends about its creation.

The 9-hour hiking safari to the Morungole Mountains is a challenge of physical fitness, endurance, and patience that is rewarded with an exhilarating balanced blend of scenic exploration, wilderness adventure, and cultural excursions. Hikers travel through montane forest, rugged terrain, and to higher altitudes with spectacular views of the Karamoja plains.

The journey culminates with a visit to the Ik tribe, a population that has kept close to traditional African traditions, viewing anything foreign with distrust and resisting interference with their way of life. Any hiking expedition into Kidepo Valley National Park must be accompanied by a ranger who is familiar with the wilderness environment, language, culture, and customs of the indigenous people.

To experience the splendor of the environment, begin the journey early in the morning when animal species are most active. Carry plenty of drinking water, snacks, a lunch box, a first aid kit, a walking stick, binoculars, cameras, maps, sunblock, bug repellent, and a guidebook. In the rainy season, safari pants tucked into thick socks, long sleeved light garments in drab colors, hiking shoes, safari hut or hat, sunglasses, and rain gear are acceptable. Hiking costs are $30 for non-foreign residents, $15 for foreign residents, and $10,000 for East Africans.

Other safari activities in Kidepo Valley National Park

Game drives are the most popular of the activities in Kidepo Valley National Park. Narus Valley is where most drives take place because many wild animals congregate here, especially in March. Tourists usually have a clear view because the savannah grassland at the park is low due to a lack of rain, and the lions and other big cats are mostly seen on the rocks of kopjes looking for food. The game drive is best in the morning because most wild animals are looking for food. Some game drives can be organized for afternoon and night. Occasionally, game drives are conducted along Kidepo Valley, where tourists can enjoy the sand bed river “oasis” in the desert. The valley has palm trees and a large number of birds, and is only visible during the dry season. Because Kidepo Valley National Park is a Ugandan desert with tsetse flies crossing the Sand bed River, this is best done in the morning before it gets too hot.

Nature Walks

Nature walks can be done at any time of day around Apoka Camp, and tourists can expect to see a variety of wildlife such as Elephants, Reedbuck, Zebra, and a few others that have not been mentioned. These are best in the morning because tourists can observe the animals closely as they hunt for food.

Bird Watching

When it comes to this activity, this is a fantastic view for birders. The park has a wide variety of birds, some of which are not found in other birding areas in Uganda. The park is ranked second in Uganda for its variety of bird species, and this activity is what drives the park’s popularity. Over 50 species of outstanding bird prey have been recorded in Kidepo Valley National Park.

Kampala City Tour

nikita

Africa Adventure safaris

East Africa Safaris

Travel Blog

Uganda Attractions

Uganda cultural tours

Uganda Safaris

Uganda Travel Packages

Kampala City Tour: This city trip includes visits to the Uganda Museum, Kasubi Tombs, local markets, Rubaga Hill, Namirembe Hill, Kabaka’s Lake, Gadaffi Mosque, Bahai Temple, and many more attractions. The Buganda monarchs’ graves occupy over 30 hectares of hillside inside the Kampala district. The old palace of the Kabakas of Buganda, completed in 1882 and transformed into the royal burial cemetery in 1884, stands at its heart on the summit. Four royal graves are presently housed within the Muzibu Azaala Mpanga, the main structure, which is round and topped by a dome. It is a significant example of organic architectural achievement in wood, thatch, reed, wattle and daub. The fundamental significance of the place, however, is found in its intangible aspects of religion, spirituality, continuity, and identity.

Nakasero Market:

You will also have the opportunity to visit Uganda’s local marketplaces. The right Reverend McKay encouraged the then Kabaka of Buganda to organize the first market in the Lubiri in January 1895. (Palace). The market was relocated to Kabugube in 1905 as a temporary building. A large range of fresh fruits and vegetables, primarily local to Uganda, may be found here. A lower market across the street sells spices, beans, cereals, and handcrafted household products. This market is bordered by a multitude of stores, known as dukas, that sell everything for the home. The location is surrounded by hardware, sanitary ware, and electrical stores.

Owino Market

The owino market is one of the largest in African. The numerous stalls that line Owino’s chaotic lanes provide a mind-boggling selection of anything from handcrafted irons to American hand-me-down clothes with Goodwill price tags still attached, to an astounding array of African cuisines, to anything and everything under the sun. Everything at Owinio starts low and gets cheaper as you negotiate. If you’re looking for souvenirs, go to the Buganda Road artisan market or the somewhat bigger crafts market behind the national theater in the Garden City complex. If you need garments stitched, there are a number of tailors on Buganda Rd. across the street from the artisan market. If you’re tired of shopping, the (upscale) café 1000 Cups of Coffee is a great place to unwind.

Rubaga Hill

Rubaga hill was the principal palace of Kabaka Muteesa I, who ruled Buganda from 1856 until 1884. The palace was destroyed by lightning and rebuilt on nearby Mengo Hill. Frenchmen, Father Pierre Lourdel Monpel and Brother Amans, were the first Roman Catholic missionaries to come in Buganda in 1879 and resided near the hill. As the Catholic Church established itself in the area, the missionaries were given property on Lubaga Hill. St. Mary’s Cathedral on Lubaga Hill was built between 1914 and 1925 with financial contributions from Roman Catholic communities across the world. On the hill, the missionaries later erected a hospital and a nursing school.

Namirembe Cathedral

Mengo Hill, home to the traditional (the biggest of Uganda’s traditional monarchy). The hill climbs 1,260 meters (1,134 ft) above sea level. It is located next to Mengo Hill, the official seat of the Buganda government. Geographically, politically, and spiritually, the two hills’ histories are interwoven. Namirembe is the site of St. Paul’s Cathedral, which served as the major place of worship for the Anglican Church in Uganda from its construction (1915 to 1919) until the 1960s, when it became the seat of the Diocese of Namirembe. At the time, the Church of Uganda’s offices were relocated to All Saints Church in Nakasero. Since the conclusion of the religious battles in the 1890s, the Anglican Faith has been the faith most closely linked with the Buganda Monarchy.

Kabaka’s Lake

Visit the Kabaka’s lake (Kayanja Ka Kabaka),which was dug up on the instructions of the dictator Sekkabaka Mwanga (also a former King), who wanted it as an escape route as well as a site for water sports directly close to his kingdom capital – Mengo.

White Water Rafting

nikita

Africa Adventure safaris

East Africa Safaris

Travel Blog

Uganda Attractions

Uganda cultural tours

Uganda Safaris

Uganda Travel Packages

Wildlife safaris

White Water Rafting: White water rafting in Uganda provides an unforgettable experience along the Nile and at Jinja. Jinja was a modest fishing town on the Nile’s banks before John Hannington Speak discovered its source and the entrance of British colonialists. When Uganda became a British colony, the fishing community expanded into a big commerce center, with the Nile River serving as an important crossing point to the country’s eastern region all the way to Kenya. The town expanded as more Europeans, Indians, and Ugandans migrated there.

White water rafting in Jinja takes you through wild and furious rapids in the heart of the Nile. The Nile rapids at Jinja are classed 4 and 5 and provide some of the best whitewater rafting in Africa. The rapids are larger and more powerful than those on the Zambezi. Despite the fact that the recent building of the Bujagali and Isimba dams has resulted in the loss of some of the Grade five rapids, such as Namizi.

What to Expect on a White water Rafting Trip in Jinja

A day of whitewater rafting begins with an early morning breakfast before being taken to the river’s banks. All participants must leave valuables and dry clothes in the car with staff. The teams are instructed on safety and what to expect. The introduction is overseen by guides who are quite informed about the region and rapids. They go through every area of safety to ensure that all rafters have the greatest experience possible. Other subjects discussed include how to grab the rope for safety, how to paddle, and how to properly exit the raft.

If participants trip while holding their breath, they are instructed to stay as cool as possible. Always bring extra underwear and dry clothing when traveling. Choose clothing that dry quickly because you will be in and out of the water frequently.

Individuals are given the option of taking an easy or challenging path before the activity begins. Those who are not prepared for Grade 4 and 5 rafting might choose Grade 3 rafting. Families can choose a calmer family float excursion that allows them to appreciate the river while avoiding the big rapids. All participants must sign a paper detailing any medical conditions. You cannot go rafting if you have hypertension or anemia.

The activity can begin once the orientation is completed and the helmets and rain coats are attached. The first mile or two allows the guides to adequately prepare all participants before the rapids get stronger and more magnificent downstream. When you approach the next rapid, the guides organize for a vote on whether to take the simple path (edges) or the difficult route (middle).

If the majority chooses the difficult path, there is little you can do but prepare for the challenge. The experienced rafters are escorted to the most dangerous portion of the currents and allowed to tip over. If the team leader is leading a group of novice people, he or she will approach each rapid at the weakest/easiest point so that they do not trip. If the novice party comes upon a major rapid, they exit their rafts and walk around it. Each rapid provides a unique experience that is largely dependent on how the lead guide navigates.

The main route has nine major rapids, four of which are grade 5. As you travel downstream, the rapids get stronger and faster. In between the rapids, there are calm waterways and islands where participants may rest, swim, have lunch, and take in the breathtaking view. A full day of whitewater rafting may cover up to 26 kilometers. Expect to see folks fishing and drying their clothes by the river. The Jinja River is a birder’s dream, with over 100 species. Perceptive watchers may even detect vervet monkeys dangling from the branches of trees along the riverbank. Following the exercise, a small party is held at which participants are given free beverages and transportation back to the lodge.

Is it safe to go white water rafting in Jinja, Uganda?

Because the crew is highly trained and skilled in negotiating the rapids, whitewater rafting is completely safe. It is critical to follow the advice of the guides for your safety and enjoyment. Participants are provided with life jackets and protective helmets in case they trip. To avoid stumbling, grasp on to the ropes around the raft or bring your legs to your chest each time you plunge beneath the waves.

The Nile has deep waters, so there is no need to be concerned about falling on rocks. Because the threat from the rocks is minor, the guides in Jinja are more ready to let the rafts roll over numerous times.

Furthermore, multiple rescue teams in Kayaks travel ahead of the group with the objective of rescuing any trapped rafters. The rescue squad is also in charge of transporting food and fresh fruit for consumption during the major break. Aside from the rescue kayaks, there are also safety boats that transport people who no longer want to participate. The rafts for families with smaller children and teens do not travel over the most challenging and dangerous rapids. To explore the woodlands, they choose an alternative path, going over lesser rapids and picturesque islands.

Jinja, and Uganda in general, is a wonderful destination to explore the splendor of Africa. Apart from the tranquility of the town, travelers are drawn to Jinja by the Nile and Lake Victoria. After exploring Uganda’s national parks, the calm town is ideal for leisure and recuperation. The Nile River provides some of the most adrenaline-pumping sports on the planet, including bungee jumping, quad biking, horseback riding, and whitewater rafting, the focus of this article. Whitewater rafting is a fantastic sport that teaches you how to be cool under pressure. The opportunity to experience whitewater rafting on the world’s longest river is incredible. It is one of the most enjoyable things to do in Uganda.

White water rafting at the Bad Place and Kyabirwa remains unaffected. Rafting businesses have had to alter and change their launching place and overall route further downstream while still providing the same adrenaline rush and gorgeous landscape.

Kidepo Savanna Lodge

nikita

Accommodation In Kidepo

Africa Adventure safaris

East Africa Safaris

Travel Blog

Uganda Attractions

Uganda cultural tours

Uganda Safaris

Uganda Travel Packages

Wildlife safaris

Kidepo Savanna Lodge: On the outskirts of one of Uganda’s most magnificent national parks lies this pristine lodge.

Kidepo Savanna Lodge Accommodation

Safari Tent

Kidepo Savanna Lodge has twelve luxurious safari tents with elevated terraces. Each of the roomy tents has its own verandah with stunning views of the enormous savannah. All safari tents are well furnished with 1 double or 2 single beds and an ensuite bathroom with 24 hour hot showers, running water for hand-basins, and a flushing toilet.

Tent

Kidepo Savanna Lodge provides 9 non-self-contained tents as a low-cost alternative. These rooms are tastefully furnished with two single or one double bed, a bedside table, and a power outlet for charging your electronic devices. The views into the park are expansive and breathtaking, with the odd herd of elephants or buffalo passing by. A common ablution block with hot showers and flushing toilets is shared by the tents. There is no need to bring linen because all bedding and towels are provided.

Bar & Restaurant

One of the best views of the Park may be seen from the thatched dining and bar area. The views spanning all the way to southern Sudan are stunning, but so are the starry sky. Away from the light pollution of society, you will be astounded by what lies above us. The milky way may frequently be seen from the wooden terrace in front of our restaurant. Dinners consist of four courses, whilst lunch consists of two dishes. We work with a set menu because everything on site works on solar, including the fridges and freezers, but if you have any dietary requirements, we would be pleased to accommodate your request. Please notify us as soon as possible. Because you’re on vacation, breakfast, lunch, and supper are at your leisure. We will work with your schedule, no matter how early or late it is.

How to Get There

It takes some effort or money to get there, but it is well worth it. Tribal conflict, cattle raiding, and poor road conditions have hitherto kept Kidepo Valley National Park secluded and unvisited. Fortunately, the tables have turned today. The park, on the other hand, remains a Lost Eden, a destination that everyone recommends but few visit.

Activities

Kidepo Valley National Park is one of East Africa’s out-of-the-ordinary destinations. A location similar to what you may expect Africa to be, yet better. Raw, distant, untouched, and nearly unexplored. The ideal setting for your African experience. Kidepo Valley National Park is located in Uganda’s northeastern portion. It is Uganda’s most remote national park, but many who make the lengthy drive north via the wild frontier area of Karamoja would agree that it is also the most gorgeous, since Kidepo is one of Africa’s best wildernesses.

Game drives

Kidepo Savannah Lodge offers 2 to 3 hour morning and afternoon game drives in an open roofed extended land cruiser. Rates are in USD and do not include the client’s professional ranger or park entrée costs.

Bush/Nature Walks

Nothing beats taking a walk on the wild side. Explore the savannah on foot, escorted by an armed guide, as you go through dry river beds, across rocky outcrops, and into bush country in search of native animals.

Lamoj Mountains:

The majority of the trekking takes place on the Lamoj Mountains, which are only a few kilometers from the Park’s headquarters. This location is in Narus Valley, a popular game watching place. Kidepo River Valley: Visitors should go view the magnificent Kidepo River Valley. During the most of the year, the river remains dry. A stroll on its vast bed of white sand or through the barassus palm grove, which feels like a saharan oasis, is a wonderful attraction.

Visit to Karamojong Village

A fascinating look at the warrior tribe’s way of existence. The term Karamojong is taken from a word that means ‘the old folks can no longer walk’. This tribe, originally from Ethiopia, settled in the north-east of Uganda.
