3 Days Nyiragongo Hiking Safari Detailed itinerary
Day 1: Kigali city tour & drive from Kigali to DRC
Meet our company representative for a warm welcome after you have had a leisurely cup of tea or coffee. You will have Kigali city tour prior driving to DR Congo. Your Kigali city expedition will include visiting the presidential palace, museum, craft market, Gisozi genocide centre. After, begin your Nyiragongo volcano trip from Kigali to DR Congo involving border crossing to Goma border via Lake Kivu. Lunch break will be had at the hotel/restaurant nearby the border crossing. Later, go clear with immigration at border offices and then proceed to Goma.
Day 2: Hike to the top of Nyiragongo Volcano
After enjoyable morning cup of tea or coffee, go meet the team of Virunga park officials at Kibati patrol post for briefing on Nyiragongo hiking. During briefing time, you also have a chance to hire porters in case you have heavy luggage. Your trek to Mt. Nyiragongo is rewarding, taking you about 4 to 6 hours starting from elevation of 1989m to 3470m.
As you hike, expect to sight some primates, birds and several floral species that are inhabited in the lush forest within the Virunga National Park. There is also a chance to view other surrounding areas such as the Rwenzori Mountains, Kahuzi-Biega National Park, Goma Town, other Virunga volcanoes, Lake Kivu. You will have overnight stay at the volcano’s summit and enjoy breathtaking views of boiling Lava Lake.
Day 3: Descending from the summits of Nyiragongo Volcano to Kibati Patrol Post
Get up for an early morning cup of tea or coffee and after, start descending back to Kibati at 8:00am. Along the way, expect to enjoy incredible views of surround places and once you arrive at briefing point, meet your professional driver guide for transfer to Kigali.
