We bring you the most updated facts about where the Rushegura family is found, the family head, members, how to find them, the cost of finding them, Rules protecting them and much more.

Gorillas are not only rare creatures but also endangered and act like humans because of the over 98% common genes. Researchers even suggest that from gorillas came a human being; a fact you may believe after encountering this exciting rare group. In the Jungle, Gorillas leave a social life, caring and looking after each other, though through the leadership of one dominant Male with a silverback lining.

The silverback in most case takes up the leadership mantle by the age of about 12 to 14 years after either succeeding from another silverback, or breaking up, and forming its own separate family with its other friends. If a dominant silverback dies, the family is deeply troubled and in most cases gets divided. Gorillas can only be found in the continent of Africa; east and central in specific.

Where to find Rushegura Gorilla Family?

Rushegura gorilla family is one of the Over 12 Gorilla families in the lush Bwindi Impenetrable forest national park; home to half of the world’s gorilla population, and found in the foothills of the giant Virunga Mountains, with roots at the southwestern part of Uganda in East Africa.

Rushegura Gorilla Group is one of the families in Buhoma sector situated in the northern part of the park. It was formed after a silverback named Mwirima split from its mother group, Habinyanja family that was led by Rwansigazi. The Rushegura name was picked from the place from which the separation happened in 2002. Witnesses testify that Mwirima departed with seven members, of whom 5 were female, but later Joined by other gorillas which led to a size increment of about 19 members by April 2010. His great bond and leadership skills have seen him in control of the family up to the age of 25 years.

Though currently peacefully settled at the park, this group used to cross to the Congo, and then return. The group often wonders around the Buhoma homestays, and lodges, as well as the vast Buhoma sector. The members of this group are not so shy, and always come so close to people. After long fights to protect the family and his authority, Mwirima passed on, living a family which has no dominant silverback as ahead, but just adults silverbacks, females, juveniles, and infants, yet very stable.
