Oruzogo Gorilla Family

Oruzogo Gorilla Family got its name from the local plant called Oruzogo that can be located in the proximity of this gorilla family as you are on the trek. The Gorilla Family is one of the four gorilla groups in Bwindi impenetrable national park in the Ruhija sector with others like Bitukura, Mukiza and Kyanguriro. The Bwindi national park is well located in the Virunga ranges in south-western Uganda and this means is a hub for gorillas. This park is blessed with almost half of the rare mountain gorilla population in the world as the research says they are over 600 individuals.

Oruzogo Gorilla Family is the one with the biggest number of individual in the Ruhija sector comprising of 23 individuals with one dominant silverback called Tibirikwata. Other members in the group are Busungu which means short-tempered, mutants, katooto young one, Kakima meaning monkey in appearance, Kaganga which means powerful or giant one, Kanywani which means friend among others.

This gorilla family was open for visitors in 2011 after being habituated for 2 years and visiting this Gorilla Family is interesting and you cannot regret it as you watch the young ones playing as the elders snap after a morning feed. The group keep increasing in number and this is because of different births at a different rate for example there was ecstasy in the year 2011 when one of the female gorillas gave birth to twins.

While on the gorilla safari in Uganda to trek the this Gorilla Family in the Ruhija sector, you will have to attend the briefing which may even take 30minutes where you will be informed about Bwindi forest and the gorillas at large, checking of gorilla permit, attachment to a group of 8 visitors who will trek this family, information about gorilla trekking rules and regulation like don’t use camera flashlight, don’t feed animals among others.

After briefing, with the help of the guide representative of the Bwindi national park, penetrate Bwindi forest and search for Oruzogo Gorilla Family. Because they are habituated which means that the gorillas are now used to human behavior, they will stay around after coming into contact with them. All you need to know is that visitors are only and only allowed to be in their presence of mountain gorillas for an hour which will seem to be a minute. Note that the whole experience can take about 2-4 hours while adventuring in the forest.

Best time to visit Oruzogo

You need to know the best time to make this experience memorable. Therefore you need to know that Uganda has two wet seasons and two dry seasons. The dry season is from December to February and June to August and the reverse is true.

This is when trails are dry and passable than in wet seasons which is in March to May and September to November when the trails are slippery and impassable.
