The two days Mgahinga National Park tour will expose you to the best of this park famous for golden monkeys and gorilla trekking. You will enjoy a boat ride on Lake Bunyonyi where you will visit the 27 islands that offer a great view of the terraced landscape, participate in fishing and also relax at the resort. Day 1: Travel to Mgahinga national park
Our tour driver guide will welcome you at Kigali international airport in Rwanda and he will offer you a piece of information about this short tour. Travel to where gold meets silver-Mgahinga NP in south western Uganda a park famous for harbouring mountain gorillas and golden monkeys.
The park covers an area of 33. 9 sq.km with tremendous wildlife species of over 39 mammal species of which 10 are primates, it is also a shelter for three of the eight volcanoes (mt. Gahinga, mt. Sabinyo and Mt Muhabura. The park is home of Batwa pygmies’ culture, over 180 bird species and of which some are Albertine endemics.
Enroute activity: A boat cruise at Lake Bunyonyi to explore its 29 islands and learn about their unique history, communities, life of fishermen, visit the leprosy centre, visit a traditional healer or hike to the view point where you can take pictures of all the 29 islands and the Virunga mountains in the back drop.
Day 2: Golden Monkey Trekking & Departure
Head for a trekking activity in the forest of the N. Park with a guidance of a ranger guide after a short briefing and breakfast. Trekking can take 3 to 4 hours depending on where you find the golden monkeys but after you will be allowed only and only one hour as you take photos.
Other attractions that may be spotted are golden cats, side-striped jackals, forest buffalos, bushbucks, and forest hog among others. After the trek, travel back to Kigali crossing the Katuna border up to the airport and this will be the end of the safari.
