The safari will take you to the 3 countries (Uganda, Rwanda and Tanzania) but mainly you will be visiting 2 national parks in two countries (Uganda and Tanzania). The tour will expose you to the remaining mountain gorillas in the world, the big five animals in Serengeti national park and also visit the local Batwa pygmies’ community in Bwindi impenetrable national park.
You will fly from Kigali Rwanda to Arusha in Tanzania. But while in Rwanda, you will be able to visit the Rwanda genocide memorial centre to study about the history of this small and cleanest country in east Africa.
Day 1: Fly into Kigali Airport
You will fly from your home country to Kigali international airport in Rwanda where you will be received by the driver guide. This airport is near Bwindi national parks compared to Entebbe in the central Uganda. The drive guide will transfer you to the hotel room in Kigali city.
Day 2: Kigali-Bwindi National Park
After breakfast, you will take a city tour where by you will visit area such as the national museum, the Rwanda genocide memorial center or even the palace of the Rwandan president. You will later travel to Bwindi in south western Uganda crossing Katuna border. This can take 4hour drive because you cover a distance of 170km.
Bwindi covers an area of 321sq.km and it is one of the national parks that harbours mountain gorillas and it’s on record that its having a biggest number over 400 mountain gorillas almost half of the world’s population.
It also harbours over 350 species of birds including 23 Albertine rift endemics and also over 120 mammals including several primates such as baboons, monkeys among others. The neighbouring communities are for Bakiga and Batwa tribes who can entertain you with the local dances.
Day 3: Gorilla trekking and cultural encounter in the evening
You will transfer to the park headquarters where you will meet the park ranger guide who will take you through briefing after your morning breakfast. The guide will tell you the dos and don’ts while trekking, the information about the park and surrounding areas and also be divided in groups of 8 people to trek only one gorilla family. You will be escorted to penetrate the impenetrable forest to search for these apes.
You will have only one hour to stay with these animals as you take and record memorable photos after locating them. But trekking can even take 5hours depending on where you find them and therefore, this requires you to have a bottle of water because it requires hiking and moving long distances. After you will trek back and meet your guide and drive back to the lodge for lunch.
In the afternoon after lunch, you will visit the local Batwa community who will entertain you with their traditional dances, taste their traditional meal.
Day 4: Transfer back to Kigali and fly to Arusha
You will have a leisure breakfast and transfer to Kigali international airport in Rwanda to catch up your scheduled flight to Arusha in Tanzania. You will again cross through Katuna border which will take 3 hours’ drive. The flight will take you to Arusha where you will be welcomed by our Tanzania tour representative to transfer you to the hotel.
Day 5: Arusha- Serengeti NP and half day game drive
The tour representative/ driver guide will come and pick you from the hotel immediately after breakfast and drive you to Serengeti national park. The distance covered is 235km taking 5-6hours drive in the northern part of Tanzania. The park is famous for its annual migration of millions of wildebeest and over 250,000 zebras. Also it’s numerous crocodiles and honey badger.
The park covers an area of 14,750sq.km and a home over 300 mammal species (of which 80 are large mammals), over 500 bird species and over 314 plant species. The park is a home to abundant wildlife which include the big five animals, giraffes, impalas, Kongoni, topis, giant gazelles among others. On arrival, you will take lunch and head for a game drive in the evening to spot these animals. It is rare to spot black rhinos in this park
Day 6: Full day safari in Serengeti NP endless plains
Wake up early in the morning and take a full day game drive in search for more wildlife in this park. Keep your eyes outside and the cameras ready not to miss any moment of adventure; you will have your packed lunch in the wild.
Here you expect to spot animals like oribis, kobs, wildebeest, kudu, big cats like the lions, leopards, cheetahs also hippos, giraffes, buffalos, elephants among others.
Day 7: Serengeti to Arusha
You with travel back to Arusha after your relaxed breakfast to catch up an outbound flight back home after a 4-5hours drive. This will mark the end of a 7 day Bwindi and Serengeti National park safari.
