10 Days Gorilla Trekking & Wildebeest Migration

The safari will enable you explore the most of East Africa through visiting some of the world’s famous destinations and will engage you through several activities such as gorilla trekking, golden monkey trekking, game drives, community visits and even the Ankole-Kigezi museum in Mbarara.

You will explore the twin lakes in Rwanda, as well as spotting the big five animals in Serengeti national park and also the big cats, and view the Uganda equator in Kayabwe. The primary means of transport will be by road but you will take a regional flight from Entebbe to Maasai Mara national park. The safari will start in Kigali – Rwanda and end in Arusha Tanzania.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Fly into Kigali airport, transfer to volcanoes NP and visit the twin lakes

Fly from your home of residents to Kigali Rwanda where you will be welcomed by safari drive guide in the company uniform. He will transfer you to volcanoes national park after a short briefing about the tour.

You will pass by the twin lakes of Ruhondo and Burera that give massive scenery of the waters and the bird around these lakes. Continue with the journey and reach volcanoes national park a journey covering a distance of 107km taking 2-3hours drive depending on the speed and stopovers.

The park is located in the Virunga conservation area where most of the remaining mountain gorillas can be found. The park was also a home for the famous researcher Dian Fossey who was killed by the poachers but he saved several gorillas and was also the person who introduced gorilla habituation in Rwanda.

Day 2: Golden monkey trekking, cultural emersion at Ibyiwachu cultural village

After a short briefing about the does and the don’ts, you will be escorted by the game ranger guide who will take you to the forest to search for golden monkeys. This great experience because in Rwanda they can be found this national park.

Trekking can take 4-6hours depending on where you locate these creatures but after locating them, you will strictly be allowed to be with them for one hour of experience as you watch them jump from one tree to another. Later trek back and be driven to the lodge for mid lunch.

In the evening, you will visit the Ibyiwachu cultural village where you will encounter the Kinyarwanda culture. Ibyiwachu is a local Kinyarwanda word which means treasures of our home and heritage. While here, expect to explore the traditional dance, traditional meals, visiting the king’s palace, meeting traditional healers and also tasting the local brew.

Day 3: Transfer to Bwindi NP via Lake Bunyonyi

You will transfer to Bwindi impenetrable national park in Uganda crossing Katuna border after your delicious breakfast at the lodge. You will pass via Lake Bunyonyi which is the second deepest lake in Africa and has over 27 well-terraced islands.

The name originated from the little birds that are found on the islands in this lake. You will take short canoeing on the lake for about one hour and proceed with the journey to Bwindi national park a journey that can take 4-5hours from volcanoes and 1-2hours from lake Bunyonyi.

The Bwindi national park covers an area of 321sq.km and famous for homing half of the remaining mountain gorillas (over 400 individuals). Also, it’s home to over340bird species, over 120 mammals of which most of them are small forest creatures such as monkeys and over 900 plant species. The Batwa and the Bakiga are the communities that live near this park and their culture is something not to be missed.

Day 4: Gorilla trekking in Bwindi (Ruhija sector), evening cultural encounter with Batwa pygmies

Immediately after morning breakfast, you will head to the briefing point where you will be given precautions while trekking. You are advised to put on long-sleeved shirts and trousers with hiking shoes because you’re heading to penetrate the impenetrable.

The trekking begins with the help of the armed park guide, who will take you to one of the greatest trails to search for our relatives. Trekking requires someone who is physically fit because it requires hiking and walking long distance. You will have only 1 hour of interaction after locating them.

Day 5: Transfer to Entebbe

On this day, you will have a long drive to Entebbe after breakfast. You will pass via Mbarara where you will have your first stopover at Igongo cultural centre to visit the Kigezi-Ankole museum which is full of history and culture of the Banyankole and western part at large.

Another stopover will be at the Uganda equator in Kayabwe for lunch, experiment, photography and souvenir buying. You will later proceed to Entebbe for your accommodation. This can take over 9hours due to the stopovers on the way.

Day 6: Fly to Maasai Mara national park from Entebbe

You will visit the Uganda wildlife education enter (Entebbe zoo) in the morning after your breakfast where you will see several animals such as lions, elephants, buffalos, cheetahs, tortoise, crocodiles, ostrich, chimpanzees among other. Later transfer to the airport to catch up with your scheduled flight that will fly you to Maasai Mara National Park.

The park is located in south-western Kenya along the Great Rift Valley and at the border o Tanzania. It covers an area of 1,821sq.km and it has Maasai Mara River and Talek River as a key draining river for this great park. It’s home to over 90 species of mammals, 450 bird species and 500 plant species. This is why it’s called the finest collection of wildlife in the whole world.

Day 7: Explore Maasai Mara NP on a full day

Full day game drive in Maasai Mara will expose you to the most wildlife in the park such as the wildebeest, zebras, warthogs, gazelles, cheetahs, baboons, Nile crocodiles, jackals, hyenas, giraffes, topis, and also the big 5 animals such as lions, elephants among others.

Day 8: Travel to Serengeti national park from Maasai Mara N/Park

After your breakfast, you will travel to Serengeti national park a journey taking 6-7hours crossing Isebania border. Serengeti is famous for an abundant wildlife sanctuary in the whole world also for the beautiful and scientific value.

The park covers an area of 14,763sq.km which give a chance to the home several animals such as lions, wildebeest, buffalos, elephants, elands, zebras among others.

Day 9: Serengeti NP full-day guided safari

Another adventure safari starts early in the morning at around 6:00 am with our picnic lunch and fruits will take you close to the nature gate in different ecosystems of the Serengeti plains in deferent corners. It will reward you with an exposure of different animals such as lions, tree-climbing animals, leopards, giraffes, buffalos, elephants among others.

Day 10: Serengeti NP-Arusha and departure

This will be the last day of your safari and you will start it by taking breakfast, check out the accommodation room and transfer to Arusha international airport a journey taking 4-5hours drive. You will be dropped at the airport and this will make up the end of the tour.
