Apoka Rest Camp features a vast and open property that is popular for camping. If you want to go camping, you can do so, but you must provide your own camping equipment because the lodge merely provides a camping site. The lodge does not have an operating restaurant; you will need to bring your own food to feed on. We recommend that you pack your food from Kampala or Mbale, Gulu, and other dependable metropolitan towns, which may offer cuisine of your interest. The camp has some refrigeration, and you may bring in frozen meat. Markets sell eggs, bread, and prepared soups, and you can make a stew with anything from vegetables to meat or chicken.

Camping in Kidepo Valley National Park

Camping in Kidepo National Park is one of the most authentic ways to interact with wildlife. Aside from being a less expensive way to visit the park, your Uganda safari tour allows you to get up close and personal with the animals. Camping is done on the ridges of the Narus valley in Kidepo National Park.

This area in Kidepo is the main source of water during the dry season, and all wildlife congregates here to quench their thirst. Your Uganda wildlife safari includes an armed guide to protect you from wild animals. A fire is kept going all night to keep animals away from the site.

Safari Tent

Kidepo Savanna Lodge has twelve luxurious safari tents with elevated terraces. Each of the roomy tents has its own verandah with stunning views of the enormous savannah. All safari tents are well furnished with 1 double or 2 single beds and an ensuite bathroom with 24 hour hot showers, running water for hand-basins, and a flushing toilet.

Tent

Kidepo Savanna Lodge provides 9 non-self-contained tents as a low-cost alternative. These rooms are tastefully furnished with two single or one double bed, a bedside table, and a power outlet for charging your electronic devices. The views into the park are expansive and breathtaking, with the odd herd of elephants or buffalo passing by. A common ablution block with hot showers and flushing toilets is shared by the tents. There is no need to bring linen because all bedding and towels are provided.

Bar & Restaurant

One of the best views of the Park may be seen from the thatched dining and bar area. The views spanning all the way to southern Sudan are stunning, but so are the starry sky. Away from the light pollution of society, you will be astounded by what lies above us. The milky way may frequently be seen from the wooden terrace in front of our restaurant. Dinners consist of four courses, whilst lunch consists of two dishes. We work with a set menu because everything on site works on solar, including the fridges and freezers, but if you have any dietary requirements, we would be pleased to accommodate your request. Please notify us as soon as possible. Because you’re on vacation, breakfast, lunch, and supper are at your leisure. We will work with your schedule, no matter how early or late it is.

How to Get There

It takes some effort or money to get there, but it is well worth it. Tribal conflict, cattle raiding, and poor road conditions have hitherto kept Kidepo Valley National Park secluded and unvisited. Fortunately, the tables have turned today. The park, on the other hand, remains a Lost Eden, a destination that everyone recommends but few visit.

Bush/Nature Walks

Nothing beats taking a walk on the wild side. Explore the savannah on foot, escorted by an armed guide, as you go through dry river beds, across rocky outcrops, and into bush country in search of native animals.

Lamoj Mountains:

The majority of the trekking takes place on the Lamoj Mountains, which are only a few kilometers from the Park’s headquarters. This location is in Narus Valley, a popular game watching place. Kidepo River Valley: Visitors should go view the magnificent Kidepo River Valley. During the most of the year, the river remains dry. A stroll on its vast bed of white sand or through the barassus palm grove, which feels like a saharan oasis, is a wonderful attraction.

Visit to Karamojong Village

A fascinating look at the warrior tribe’s way of existence. The term Karamojong is taken from a word that means ‘the old folks can no longer walk’. This tribe, originally from Ethiopia, settled in the north-east of Uganda. This is a warrior nomad tribe related to the Maasai, for whom livestock were pride and prestige for millennia, and cow robberies were the norm. However, since the disarmament, things have cooled down. Cattle is still king, although subsistence farming has grown in popularity.
